Treatment For Homosexuality?

The president and the vice-president of the National Association for Research and Therapy for Homosexuality (NARTH) wrote in 1994:

Homophobia is something that permeates every aspect of our lives, sometimes in ways too subtle to detect, and other times with overt violence.
"Homophobia: Views and Positions" ((رهاب المثلية: مواق٠وشهادات is a book that breaks the silence around this social ill, claiming loudly that it is not homosexuals that are deviant and in need of treatment, but homophobes themselves.
This book is the first of its kind in Arabic in the region, but we certainly hope it won't be the last. Bringing together some of Lebanon's most gifted writers as well as a host of local intellectuals and activists, Homophobia is a book that challenges and sparks much needed debate in our societies about the violence that gays, lesbians, and bisexuals face
and the silence that protects and condones it.

ÙˆÙÙŠ إيران ÙŠÙÙرَض على المرأة أخذ القبول من والدها قبل الزّواج. والد هذه المرأة الذي رÙض ÙÙŠ بادئ الأمر، قرّر تغيير رأيه إذ أخذ المتØوّل جنسيّاً ÙØصاً يؤكّد أنّه رجل. ÙˆÙÙŠ إيران، Øيث المثليّة الجنسيّة تعاقب بالاعدام، التØوّل الجنسيّ شرعيّ ومقبول دينيّاً، وتسجّل الجمهورية الإسلامية ثاني أكير نسبة ÙÙŠ عمليّات تغيير الجنس بعد تايلاند. وتوجد بعض الدلائل أنّ السلطة الإيرانية تدÙع بالمثليين لكي يقوموا بعمليّات التØوّل الجنسيّ هرباً من مثليّتهم(!).

Ùخلط المÙاهيم والقيم، من دون أسس عقلانيّة، ومعايير واضØØ©ØŒ وتØديدات علميّة Ù…ØµØ·Ù„Ø Ø¹Ù„ÙŠÙ‡Ø§ØŒ ثم تغلي٠هذا الخطاب بشعارات مثيرة للأهواء والمخاوÙ... من شأنه أن يزج بأي نقاش ÙÙŠ دوامة من التشنّج والÙوضى. وإذا بالطريق Ù…ÙتوØØ© على اتساعها، أمام مختل٠أشكال الأصوليّة والÙاشيّة والتوتاليتاريّة.
المØكمة العليا ÙÙŠ إسلام أباد تأمر بالØقوق المتساوية للمتØوّلين جنسيّاً
Submitted by editor on Sat, 08/08/2009 - 06:00منØت المØكمة العليا ÙÙŠ إسلام أباد، باكستان، المتØوّلين جنسيّاً Øقوق الاستÙادة من مشاريع الدّعم الØكوميّة. وكان المØاميّ Ù…Øمّد إسلام Øقّي قد أطلق عريضة بعد أن لاØظ أنّ Ø£Øوال المتØوّلين جنسياً سيّئة جدّاً، اذ أنّهم يتعرّضون للتØرّش الجنسي ويÙجبرون على ممارسة الدعارة.
وأشارت المØكمة أيضاً إلى ضرورة القيام بمشاريع تØسّن Ø£Øوال هذه الÙئة من المجتمع عبر التعاون مع الجمعيّات غير الØكوميّة. وأصرّت الØكومة على Øماية المتØوّلين جنسيّاً من السّارقين والمخالÙين. كما طلبت من المسؤولين ÙÙŠ الشرطة أخذ الاجراءات ضد الشرطيين المخالÙين.
وأشارت المØكمة أيضاً إلى ضرورة القيام بمشاريع تØسّن Ø£Øوال هذه الÙئة من المجتمع عبر التعاون مع الجمعيّات غير الØكوميّة. وأصرّت الØكومة على Øماية المتØوّلين جنسيّاً من السّارقين والمخالÙين. كما طلبت من المسؤولين ÙÙŠ الشرطة أخذ الاجراءات ضد الشرطيين المخالÙين.

Homosexuality Is NOT an illness

Freud is considered by many people as the founder of modern psychiatry or at least psychoanalysis. He thought that homosexuality is just a normal variation in human sexuality and he did not think that it is a pathology. (1,2)

Other psychoanalysts had differing views from Freud. Some of their theories stated that homosexuality was a "phobic" reaction to the other sex or a psychopathology related to the Oedipal complex. (1)
Homosexuality & Mental Health

Psychiatry is one of the medical fields that deal with health and disease whereas homosexuality is a social, political and historical issue that has nothing to do with "health". The fact remains that across the years, there has been a lot of confusion about the above relationship and for that reason only it is worth talking about this issue.

Kinsey in 1948 found that 20% of women and 37% of men had some homosexual experience in their lifetime. Kinsey and his colleagues reported that 10% of the males in their sample and 2-6% of the females had been more or less exclusively homosexual in their behavior. (1,3)
